Playing Car Racing Video Games Adversely Affects Real Driving Habits
A German study links playing car racing games to driving more aggressively and causing automobile accidents.Researchers at the Ludwig-Maximilians University and the Allianz Centre for Technology in Munich, Germany tested 198 men and 98 women and found that simulated fast-car driving influences the real thing.
Those playing a racing game reported a "significantly higher accessibility of thoughts and feelings linked to risk-taking" than those playing a neutral game, according to the study.
Previous studies have linked playing violent video games with increased aggressive thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
This study appears in the most recent issue of the Journal of Experimental Psychology.
