September Is Addiction Recovery Month

Cerritos, CA - The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the United States has, for 17 years running, named September as National Recovery Month. The purpose behind National Recovery Month is to not only raise awareness regarding addiction, but also to "promote the societal benefits of substance abuse treatment, laud the contributions of treatment providers, and promote the message that recovery from substance abuse in all its forms is possible."

The people at Aspen Education Group couldn't agree more. For over two decades Aspen has helped people overcome addiction through a vareity of programs depending on each student.

SunHawk Academy, located in Utah, is an adolescent residential treatment center in a boarding school setting for struggling teens which combines education, recreation, and therapy/counseling into a comprehensive program that helps teens develop in every area of their lives. Because SunHawk focuses on more than just substance abuse, an adolescent who participates in the program will grow as a whole person. He or she is taught how the different facets of life work together to create a complete, healthy person.

Youth Care is another residential treatment center for teens, also located in Utah. Much like SunHawk, Youth Care focuses on more than just substance abuse. Using innovative, evidence-based interventions, the staff at Youth Care develops a specialized program for each student. The residential buildings aren't dorms, but instead are large houses which include living rooms, bedrooms, and a kitchen. The residential setting affords YouthCare staff to teach the value of responsibility by assigning chores, and creating a family-like atmosphere where the residents learn to interact positively with one another.

NorthStar Center, located in Oregon, is an aftercare program for young adults that is designed to continue the recovery process that was started in the initial treatment program. NorthStar focuses on teaching young adults how to maintain their recovery by helping them better understand addiction and the emotional responses that can lead to a relapse. As with other Aspen facilities, the program here is comprehensive, including academics and recreation as well as counseling. The academic aspect of NorthStar is a little different, as this program is designed for people who are no longer in high school or college. For those who didn't finish high school, or dropped out of college, NorthStar offers assessments to evaluate basic skills such as reading a math. With that information in hand, residents know what it will take for them to complete either high school or college.

Aspen offers several other programs for troubled teens and young adults. For more information, visit www.aspeneducation.com or call 888.972.7736
